Book signing completed and we’re ready for lunch - fresh sweet corn from the farms nearby - AND, there are irregularities in the votingfor the biggest fan!

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Good afternoon, family and friends,

Yes, according the website for Whataburger, there have been some “irregularities” in the voting, so voting has been suspended and Whataburger will choose the top twenty. Keep your fingers crossed that we still win! Again, thanks to everyone who did vote for us, and I can assure you we DID NOT have any irregularities on our part.

We sold two books at the Senior Center - pedestrian traffic was very light, but we had others who expressed interest but didn’t have the money with them at the present time.

We are at Joan and Bill’s, awaiting lunch of leftovers and some sweet corn I picked up from the back of a pickup truck along the highway. I’m in the mood for some good sweet corn!

Nothing planned for this afternoon. Bill went fishing and caught one nice Walleye and had another get loose right next to the boat when his drag didn’t work right on the reel. (Another fishing tale).

The casino wasn’t too kind to us again last night, but we did enjoy playing for a long time on one machine before it changed to an eating frensy and took our $50. Perhaps the next time we’ll win - yeah, and pigs can fly!

Now we see on the news that Senator Bacus, who co-authored the “supposedly wonderful Obamacare”, never bothered to read the bill. He was too busy and there are experts for that was his reply to a woman who asked the question. What is wrong with Washington? If this doesn’t tell you, nothing will.

Thank God November 2 is less than 70 days away. Get rid of them all!!!

But, time for lunch. Then we can solve the problems of the nation and world.

Until then,
Vaya con Dias,
Karl & Carol

Cool weather in Show Low and cooler machines in the casino!

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Good afternoon, family and friends,

We continue to be in the top ten in the Whataburger contest. Just five more days and we’ll see if we win some free Whataburgers. Keep voting. If you haven’t go to www.whataburgerbiggestfan.com and vote for Karl & Carol in their white t-shirts with number 13 on the front. We are in sixth place, hoping to move up. Thanks again.

And, yes, the slot machines at the casino were cold last night, but we still have a few days to pull even or even get ahead for a change!

The weather has been beautiful - bright blue skies and puffy white clouds with the sun shining brightly. Low 60s at night and nice 70s or a little hotter during the day - what else could we want”?

We went out looking for condos to rent and will contact a realtor on Saturday to see about some nearby. We hope we have good luck in the book signing tomorrow.

Carol and Joan went to a fashion luncheon today where they modeled the clothes they bought at a local thrift shop. Carol had a ball and made a lot of new friends.

Bill and I checked out several of the local Indian lakes nearby, and I think we’ll enjoy fishing them next year if we can find a place to rent and stay here for three months. I’m looking forward to it.

We both believe we’ll have a good time here and make lots of new friends while enjoying much cooler weather than Rockport has to offer during the summer months.

We’ll probably hit the casino again tonight - why not, we are on vacation!

So, until the next report, keep voting and get those orders in for my latest novel, “The Texas Two Card Hold ‘em Heist” - you’ll love it!

Vaya con Dias, everyone,
Karl & Carol

Visting in Show Low, AZ with my sister and her hubby.

Good mornng, family and friends,

Just checked our status on whatburgerbiggestfan.com, and we have jumped up to 5th place. Thank you to everyone who has continued to vote for us daily. Keep it up, we’re 10,000 votes behind the leader, but with your help and that of your friends, we can overcome that lead. Free whataburgers for 60 yeares, here we come!

We are in Show Low, AZ for the next week. We arrived here and were greeted with a nice thunderstorm that cleaned off the windows to the van and erased the road dirt and grime.

We went to a local Casino last night for about 4hours and won a little, lost a little and finally left about $10 up. Nice place.

We stayed the first night with Joan and Bill, and then found a very nice motel with a decent rate ($55 a night), clean and comfortable with a good breakfast every morning.

This morning we went out looking for rental condos and found a place named “The Pines” about 2 miles from where Joan and Bill reside. We’ll contact a realtor tomorrow to see what is available. A one bedroom rents for $1,000 a month and a 2 bedroom for $1,250. We think we’ll attempt to rent one for three months next summere (July, August and September) to get away from the heat in Rockport.

The weather here is delightful - low 80s for highs and in the 60s at night. We slept like logs last night.

Joan and Carol are going to a ladies’ luncheon at 1 pm and Bill and I will drive around looking at other places and getting an idea of how the town is laid out so we can find our way around more easily. The town is very pretty, lots of activities here, lakes for fishing, etc. Tall pine trees everywhere, lots of wildlife around - we saw a fox cross the street in front of us as we came to Joan and Bill’s place this morning.

Like what we saw in the primaries last night - GET RID OF THE INCUMBENTS WHO GAVE US OBAMACARE!!!

Bad news on the home sales and unemployment situation. Obama is leading the USA to ruin if we don’t do something positive in November. Thank God for the Republicans who got out and voted.
Go, Tea Party.

We’ll probably hit the casino again soon, as it was fun last night.
We plan to enjoy our time, but we are set for another book signing at a Senior Citizen Center on Friday, from 9 - 5. Wish us good luck.

Keep voting for us. Can’t tell you how much we appreciate your efforts.

Until next time,
Vaya con Dias, my friends,
Karl & Carol

A night at Carla’s, then on the road again.

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Good morning, family, and friends,

We drove another 370 miles to our daughter’s home, where we stayed overnight and got a good night’s rest. We visited with Sam, our granddaughter who is enrolled in the University of New Mexico. She is a sophomore and has been selected to be a Resident Advisor, gets free room and board, (single room with private bath, furnished with a refrigerator and microwave), plus $300 stripend a month - not bad!
Now, we’re listening to a song called, “Frying bacon in the nude” before we leave - strange, yeah, but you have to know our daughter to enjoy it!
So, it will soon be on the road again, off to Show Low, AZ and cooler weather. More later,
Until then, Vaya con Dias, everyone,
Karl & Carol

Safe trip to Plainview

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Good evening, my family and friends,

We had a very nice, almost traffic free 635 mile drive today to Plainview, where we mes our old friend, Ramona, and took her to dinner.
Now, it’s time for bed. We hope to head up to I-40 tomorrow and then over to Tijeras, NM to spend the afternoon and overnight with Carla, our daughter.
Then the next day, we’ll head for Show Low, AZ and our final destination.
Hope all is well with everyone out there in reader land.
Get those orders in for my newest book. I’ll get them filled when we return.
Until the next time,
Vaya con Dias,
Karl & Carol (and Curly, the doll - on a road trip this time)
